The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga issued a campus-wide lockdown Thursday morning after reports of an active shooter. Students and staff received urgent "Run, Hide, Fight" alerts following reports of shots fired near the library area.

Chattanooga Police Department worked with university police to investigate the reports. Officers confirmed by 1:45pm they had not located any victims despite an extensive search of campus buildings.

Police Response

A large police presence swarmed the campus as authorities conducted building-by-building searches. The FBI confirmed agents were responding to the scene and monitoring the developing situation.

Students were instructed to remain inside buildings and not move unless directed by law enforcement officers. Those caught in the library area were seen fleeing, with one witness reporting they encountered officers with weapons drawn.

Ongoing Investigation

Hamilton County Emergency Management urged the public to avoid the campus entirely during the lockdown. The campus remained under security restrictions as multiple agencies continued their investigation.

Police maintained their search operations across university buildings. While unconfirmed social media reports suggested potential casualties, law enforcement had not verified any victims or located a confirmed threat.
