Bus crash in Eccles: 15 hospitalised after bridge collision

A major incident was declared after a bus crashed into a bridge in Greater Manchester, leaving 15 people requiring hospital treatment. Emergency services rushed to the scene at the junction of Barton Road and Trafford Road in Eccles just after 3pm on Monday.

The North West Ambulance Service declared a major incident shortly after receiving the emergency call at 3.06pm. All 15 patients were transported to either Salford Royal or Manchester Royal Infirmary hospitals for treatment.

Emergency response mobilised

The ambulance service deployed extensive resources to handle the collision, including 10 emergency ambulances and advanced paramedics. The Hazard Area Response Team and colleagues from North West Air Ambulance also attended the scene, with the first emergency vehicle arriving within four minutes at 3.10pm.

The major incident status was officially stood down at 4.22pm, though emergency services remained at the scene to continue their work. A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "At 15.06 North West Ambulance Service received a call in relation to a bus collision on Barton Lane, Eccles, and declared a major incident shortly afterwards."

Road closures affect traffic

Salford Police confirmed they were responding to the collision between the bus and bridge, warning motorists to avoid the area. Road closures were implemented around the junction, causing significant disruption to local traffic in the busy area.

Police advised residents and commuters to follow @GMPSalford for the latest traffic updates as the area remained very busy. The closures remained in place as emergency services continued their investigation and clear-up operations at the crash site.
