Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed its production and sales operations have been "severely disrupted" following a major cyber attack. The car manufacturer, owned by India's Tata Motors, proactively shut down systems after discovering issues affecting its global operations.

The company stressed there is currently "no evidence" that any customer data has been stolen during the incident. JLR said it is "working at pace" to restart operations across its retail and production sites in a controlled manner.

Immediate operational impact

A JLR spokesman said the company "took immediate action to mitigate its impact by proactively shutting down our systems". The attack has forced the manufacturer to halt normal business activities while security teams work to restore safe operations.

Workers at the company's Halewood plant in Merseyside were told early Monday morning not to come into work due to the cyber incident, according to the Liverpool Echo. The disruption represents another significant challenge for JLR as it continues dealing with US tariffs on the automotive sector and weak consumer confidence.

Part of wider attack trend

The cyber attack on JLR follows a recent spate of similar incidents across the UK retail sector. Major retailers including Marks & Spencer, the Co-op and Harrods have all been targeted by cybercriminals in recent months.

Marks & Spencer was forced to stop online sales for around six weeks following a ransomware attack. The retailer warned the incident could cost the company approximately £300 million, highlighting the severe financial impact such attacks can have on major businesses.
