The Met Office has issued a new yellow warning for ice across eastern Scotland and north-east England, effective from 8pm Sunday until 10am Monday. The warning comes as previous snow and ice alerts expired throughout the weekend, while the Environment Agency maintains 72 flood warnings and 191 flood alerts across England.

Ice will form on untreated surfaces as temperatures drop below freezing overnight. The Met Office warned: «Following a spell of rain and some hill snow during Sunday afternoon, temperatures will fall below freezing as skies clear from the west through the evening and overnight, leading to ice forming on untreated surfaces.» Difficult travelling conditions are expected in the affected areas.

Ongoing Flood Risk

The Environment Agency urged the public to remain vigilant amid significant flood risks. Jonathan Day, flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, said: «more than 24,000 homes and business have been protected but about 330 have been flooded.»

The 72 flood warnings indicate flooding is expected, while the 191 alerts signal flooding is possible. Protection measures have successfully safeguarded thousands of properties, though some flooding has occurred despite these efforts.

Weather Outlook

Unsettled and blustery conditions with showers are forecast across the country for the coming days. The weather is expected to ease into Tuesday before another weather system arrives on Wednesday. Thursday should bring drier conditions.
