A Scottish father is fighting for his life in a Turkish hospital after his heart stopped beating for 70 minutes during a holiday. Peter McMahon, a 52-year-old dad-of-five from Glasgow, is in a coma and being kept alive by machines in Antalya - with no travel insurance to cover his rapidly mounting medical bills.

The garage owner suffered a cardiac arrest in the early hours of Wednesday morning, November 19, just days into what was meant to be a week-long winter break. He had arrived in the Antalya resort on November 14.

Medical staff performed CPR on McMahon for over an hour as they fought to restart his heart. The prolonged cardiac arrest has caused damage to his kidneys, and he is now receiving dialysis. He remains in a coma but is able to breathe on his own.

Daughter flies to bedside

His 20-year-old daughter Teigan flew to Turkey to be at her father's bedside. She told the Daily Record: «I got a call on Wednesday to say my dad was in ICU after he had a heart attack.»

The incident was far more severe than a previous health scare. «This was totally different. They had to perform CPR on him for over an hour. His heart stopped beating for 70 minutes,» Teigan explained. McMahon had experienced a mini heart attack a few months ago.

Urgent fundraiser launched

Teigan has launched an online fundraiser to cover her father's hospital costs and bring him home to Glasgow. The appeal raised £2,000 within a few hours.

«He's still in a coma but he's able to breathe on his own. We are praying he wakes up. We are hoping for a miracle,» she told the Daily Record.

The financial burden is overwhelming for the family. «I can't stress enough how important every penny counts. This bill is increasing day by day and is far beyond anything me or my family can manage alone,» Teigan said.

She added: «I am not the type of person to ask anyone for a penny, but I will quite literally beg to save my dad's life. I will do absolutely anything to give my dad the best possible chance.»
