Two men have died and a third remains in a life-threatening condition after four people were stabbed at a business premises in central London. Police were called to Long Lane in Southwark at 1pm on Monday following reports of the attack.
A 58-year-old man died at the scene while three other men were rushed to hospital, the Metropolitan Police said. A 27-year-old man has since died from his injuries in hospital.
Man detained in hospital
One man in his 30s has been detained in connection with the incident and is currently in hospital in a life-threatening condition. Another man in his 30s is also receiving hospital treatment but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing for the area, said the investigation is in its early stages. She described it as a "shocking incident" and said officers are working hard to understand the full circumstances.
No terrorism link suspected
Police do not believe the attack is terrorism-related and have confirmed there is no further risk to the public. A heavy police presence will remain in the area throughout the day as the investigation continues.
Detective Chief Superintendent Bond encouraged anyone with information about the incident to speak with officers at the scene or contact the Metropolitan Police through other means.
