Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in Aberdeen on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Sheffield. The arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into the Monday evening attack that left the teenager fighting for his life.

Officers from Police Scotland detained the suspect in Aberdeen on Saturday night, around 8pm. A 23-year-old woman was also arrested at the same location on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both remain in custody.

The victim was shot on London Road in Sheffield on Monday, November 24, at approximately 5:15 pm. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Previous arrests

The Aberdeen arrests follow earlier detentions in the case. Two boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. Both have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has also been released on police bail.

Investigation continues

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight, the senior investigating officer, said the investigation is "continuing at pace." She thanked members of the public who have come forward with information.

"Your support really is crucial as we strive to secure justice for the injured child and his family and put an end to gun crime in South Yorkshire," Knight said. "Collectively, we will not tolerate the risk these weapons pose to our communities."

She acknowledged the incident has caused "a lot of concern and heartache in the local communities." Knight emphasized the victim's young age: "He is 16 years of age and should have been looking forward to his future but now, his life has been put on pause as he remains in a critical condition following this horrific act of violence."

South Yorkshire Police continue to conduct reassurance patrols in the London Road area. Officers are urging anyone with information to come forward by calling 101, quoting incident number 630 of November 24, 2025, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
