A 58-year-old man faces stalking charges after allegedly targeting Liberal Democrats leader Sir Ed Davey and his family over four months. Inigo Rowland is accused of a sustained campaign of unwanted visits to the Kingston and Surbiton MP's home address.
Court documents reveal Rowland allegedly turned up at Sir Ed's address "unannounced" and "numerous" times between June and October this year. The persistent visits to the family home prompted authorities to bring stalking charges against him.
Rowland also faces an additional charge of possessing a flick knife in connection with the case. The weapon charge adds further gravity to the allegations against the defendant.
Court proceedings
Rowland appeared before Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 7 October and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, 14 October at the same court.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest timeline and court proceedings. The spokesperson said: "He was arrested on Monday, 6 October in relation to the offences, which are alleged to have taken place between June and October."
Family safety concerns
Sir Ed Davey lives with his wife Emily and their two children. The family includes son John, who has severe disabilities, and daughter Ellie.
A Liberal Democrats spokesperson emphasised the party's focus on protecting the family from further distress. The spokesperson said: "We cannot provide any details at this time, Ed's number one priority is the safety of his family."
