A man was shot twice in the leg on a residential driveway in Huyton, Merseyside, on Friday evening. Two attackers riding an electric bike opened fire around 10:20 pm on Radway Road before fleeing the scene.

The victim sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. Emergency services rushed him to hospital after the violent attack, which occurred in front of a property in the residential area.

Police recovered a firearm and an electric bike near the scene. Both items are currently undergoing forensic examination as part of the investigation. Officers established cordons on Radway Road and Liverpool Road and launched house-to-house enquiries.

Police appeal for witnesses

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson, who is leading the investigation, stressed the severity of the incident. «We are still in the very early stages of an investigation and are determined to find the offenders responsible,» he said. «A young man is currently in hospital with several injuries to his leg following a violent incident in our community; therefore, I want to reassure residents living in the area that we are taking this incident extremely seriously and are relentless in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime.»

Atkinson appealed directly to residents who may have witnessed the shooting. «This is a residential area, and there will be people who may have witnessed the incident, and I urge those people to tell us what they know if they have not done so already. If you have CCTV or dashcam footage, please let us know if your systems have captured anything. Information from you is vital if we are to break down organised crime groups, and I would appeal to anyone who has information to come forward as soon as possible.»

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and conducting witness interviews.
