A 42-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her two-year-old daughter who died after being found in a pond. Alice Mackey entered the plea at Winchester Crown Court in connection with the death of her daughter Annabel.
The tragic incident occurred on September 10, 2023, when Annabel Mackey went missing from her home in Forge Road, Kingsley, Bordon, Hampshire. The youngster was found a short time later at Kingsley Pond and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Court accepts diminished responsibility
Annabel died the following afternoon. Mackey, of Oakhanger, Hampshire, had originally been charged with murder but entered a not guilty plea to that charge.
The court heard that the prosecution accepted the manslaughter plea after reports by two psychiatrists showed that Mackey was in a state of "diminished responsibility" at the time of the incident.
Sentencing postponed until October
Judge Christopher Parker KC adjourned the case for sentencing on October 6. Mackey has been remanded in custody until the sentencing hearing takes place.
