A British aid worker was killed in a Russian drone strike while volunteering in Ukraine, an NGO has said.
Annie Lewis Marffy, 69, from Silverton near Exeter, arrived in Ukraine on June 4 but did not meet coordinators from Aid Ukraine UK as planned.
After a week of searching, Kramatorsk district police contacted the charity with information that she had been killed.
The police report states she sustained "injuries incompatible with life" after a drone strike between June 11 and 12, having parked her vehicle on a street in the contested Donbas region.
Her body "remains in an area of active hostilities, making it impossible to conduct evacuation measures to transfer the body to the forensic medical examination department", according to the report.
Marffy's son, Charlie Lewis Marffy, described his mother as "amazing, witty, kind, intelligent, adventurous". He said the family had been in contact until June 8, when communication stopped.
"She was brave, capable and determined, but we never wanted her to go," he said. "She was excited, happy to be doing something meaningful."
A spokesperson for the FCDO said: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who is missing in Ukraine and are in contact with the local authorities."
