A 42-year-old woman arrested in connection with the murder of pregnant mother Sarah Montgomery has been released unconditionally by police. The 27-year-old died at her home in Donaghadee, County Down, on Saturday.

A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder over the weekend remains in police custody. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed both suspects were known to Montgomery and no-one else is being sought in connection with her death.

Woman released unconditionally

Detectives confirmed on Tuesday that the woman, who had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, was released without charge. Montgomery, who was pregnant and had two small children, died at her home in the Elmfield Walk area.

The tragic case has devastated Montgomery's family and friends, leaving two young children without their mother. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Phillips described it as an "incredibly tragic case" and said specially trained officers continue to support the victim's family.

Fresh concerns raised

The murder has prompted fresh concerns from politicians about the level of violence against women and girls in Northern Ireland. Floral tributes have been left outside Montgomery's home as the community mourns her death.

Police are working to bring anyone involved in what they called a "senseless murder" to justice. Detective Chief Inspector Phillips appealed for anyone with information to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 865 28/06/25.
