The White House has named former UK prime minister Sir Tony Blair as a founding member of the "Board of Peace" for Gaza, with Donald Trump serving as chairman. The board, established as part of a 20-point plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas, will temporarily oversee Gaza's administration and reconstruction.

The White House announced that each founding executive board member will manage a "defined portfolio critical to Gaza's stabilisation and long-term success". Alongside Sir Tony Blair and Trump, the board includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, private equity chief Marc Rowan, World Bank head Ajay Banga, and national security adviser Robert Gabriel.

Trump endorsed the initiative on Thursday, calling it the "Greatest and most prestigious board ever assembled". The United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025) "welcomed the establishment of the Board of Peace".

Potential expansion to other conflicts

US officials are reportedly considering expanding the Trump-led board to include other conflict zones like Ukraine and Venezuela. The move would extend the Gaza model to additional regions facing ongoing crises.

A Ukrainian delegation is traveling to the United States for negotiations on security guarantees and a "prosperity package". The discussions could lead to a deal signing at the World Economic Forum in Davos next week.

Blair's background in conflict resolution

Sir Tony Blair, who served as UK prime minister from 1997 to 2007, played a key role in brokering the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. After leaving office, he worked as Middle East envoy for the US, EU, Russia and UN, focusing on economic development in Palestine.

The board's responsibilities will include governance capacity-building, regional relations, reconstruction, investment attraction, and capital mobilization.

A 15-member Palestinian technocratic committee, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, will manage day-to-day governance in post-war Gaza.

Sir Tony Blair previously participated in high-level talks about Gaza's future, including a White House meeting with Trump in August that Witkoff described as "very comprehensive".
