Amazon Prime Video has gone down for thousands of users across the UK and Europe, leaving viewers unable to access their favourite shows and films. The streaming service outage began around 10am on Saturday, disrupting weekend viewing plans for millions of subscribers.
More than 1,000 reports flooded monitoring site DownDetector within the first hour as frustrated users discovered they couldn't stream content. Social media quickly filled with complaints, with one user Clare W posting on X: "I was watching up to 10am BST, now nothing's working."
Global impact spreads
The outage extends far beyond the UK, affecting users across Europe, India, and Germany. With 13 million UK subscribers and 250 million users worldwide, according to Birmingham Mail, the scale of disruption is significant for Amazon's streaming platform.
Technical analysis reveals that 70% of users face complete service failure, while the remaining 30% experience app-specific problems. Chronicle Live reports that Amazon has officially confirmed they are "investigating a problem" affecting the Prime Video app.
Smart TV users hit hardest
Sony Android TV users appear particularly affected by the technical issues, Chronicle Live reports. The problems highlight the challenges streaming services face in maintaining consistent performance across different devices and platforms.
Amazon Prime Video competes directly with Netflix and Disney+ in the crowded streaming market. Weekend outages are particularly problematic as they occur during peak family viewing times when subscriber satisfaction is crucial.
