Punk rap duo Bob Vylan have been dropped from Manchester's Radar festival this weekend following their controversial Glastonbury appearance.

The group were scheduled to headline the Saturday slot but have been removed from the line-up after police launched an investigation into their on-stage chants.

The controversy erupted after rapper Bobby Vylan led crowds in chants of "death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)" during their livestreamed performance at the Somerset music festival last weekend.

Festival drops headliners

Radar festival posted a brief statement on Instagram, saying: "Bob Vylan will not be appearing at Radar festival this weekend."

The festival's website has been updated to show Saturday's headline slot as "Headliner TBA" (to be announced).

Bob Vylan responded by sharing the festival's statement on their Instagram story with the caption: "Silence is not an option. We will be fine, the people of Palestine are hurting. Manchester we will be back."

BBC faces criticism

The BBC has faced criticism for livestreaming the group's controversial set and has since apologised, describing the chants as "antisemitic sentiments" that were "unacceptable."

It later emerged that BBC director-general Tim Davie was at Glastonbury while the performance was being livestreamed.

A BBC spokesperson said: "The director-general was informed of the incident after the performance and at that point he was clear it should not feature in any other Glastonbury coverage."

International consequences

The fallout has extended beyond the UK, with the United States banning Bob Vylan from entering the country ahead of their planned tour.

Deputy secretary of state Christopher Landau revoked the duo's visas for what he called their "hateful tirade at Glastonbury."

The group have also been pulled from an upcoming performance at a German music venue.

However, Bob Vylan are still expected to perform at the Boardmasters surfing and music festival in Newquay, Cornwall, in August.

Band background

Bob Vylan formed in Ipswich in 2017 and are known for addressing political issues including racism, masculinity and class in their music.

Bobby Vylan is the stage name of Pascal Robinson-Foster, 34, according to reports, while his bandmate drummer uses the alias Bobbie Vylan.
