Two people have been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack on an east London restaurant that left victims fighting for their lives. A 15-year-old boy and a 54-year-old man were detained on Sunday on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remain in police custody.
The fire broke out at a restaurant in Woodford Avenue, Gants Hill, Ilford on Friday evening around 9pm. Five people were rescued from the blaze with serious injuries, including a man and woman who remain in life-threatening condition.

Sky News reports the targeted venue was the Indian Aroma restaurant, which suffered extensive structural damage. According to the BBC, the five hospitalised victims comprise three women and two men, all of whom sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Police are actively searching for two additional victims who they believe fled the scene before officers arrived. The Independent reports that nine other people had already escaped from the restaurant before emergency services reached the location.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers of the Metropolitan Police's Central Specialist Crime North unit confirmed the investigation continues "at pace" to establish exactly what happened. The senior officer acknowledged community concerns about the shocking incident and urged anyone with information to contact police.
The Metropolitan Police said they are working to piece together the full sequence of events from Friday evening. Officers have appealed for anyone with further information or concerns to come forward and speak to police.
