A 24-year-old man has been stabbed to death in central London's Knightsbridge area, with police launching a murder investigation. The Metropolitan Police are exploring reports that the fatal attack may have been a robbery.
Emergency services rushed to Seville Street, near Hyde Park, just before 9.30pm on Wednesday following reports from the public about a stabbing. The London Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance responded to the scene alongside police officers.
Officers provide first aid
Police officers attended and gave first aid to the victim, but he died at the scene despite their efforts. No arrests have been made so far and a crime scene remains in place while investigations continue.
The man's next-of-kin have been informed of his death and are being supported by specialist officers. Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command are working alongside local officers to establish what happened.
Robbery reports under investigation
Superintendent Owen Renowden said police are aware of reports suggesting the incident was a robbery, though they are keeping an open mind about all possible motives. He described the events as "shocking" and said the exact circumstances are still to be determined.
"Our thoughts are with the victim's loved ones following the shocking events that took place last night," Renowden said. "Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command, supported by local officers, are working at pace to establish the circumstances of what happened."
Extra police presence deployed
The superintendent acknowledged the impact the incident will have on the local community and confirmed extra officers will be deployed in the area. These officers will be available to answer questions or address any concerns from residents.
