Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closure of 95 additional bank branches across the UK, set to take place between May 2026 and March 2027. The closures affect 53 Lloyds Bank, 31 Halifax, and 11 Bank of Scotland locations.

The announcement marks the latest round in a series of branch reductions by the high street banking group. Currently, 49 sites are scheduled to shut down by October. Around a year ago, Lloyds announced 136 closures. Once all previously announced closures are complete, 610 branches will remain.

Protecting Cash Access

To mitigate the impact on local communities, the Link cash access network will establish 14 new banking hubs in affected areas. These shared spaces allow staff from different banks to operate on different days, offering services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments.

The bank did not specify exactly how many staff will be affected by the new closures. However, all impacted employees will be offered alternative roles within another branch or different part of the business.

A spokeswoman for Lloyds defended the decision: «Customers want the freedom to bank in the way that works for them and we offer more choice and ways to manage money than ever before. From our leading apps and 24/7 messaging service to local banking options like our community bankers, PayPoint and access to all of our Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches, we're giving our customers the flexibility to bank wherever and whenever they need us.»
