Four people were injured in a shooting at a Birmingham nightclub early Saturday morning, with one man remaining in critical condition. Police have bailed all four suspects arrested in connection with the incident at Mango nightclub on Bristol Street.
The shooting occurred around 3am on Saturday, leaving three men requiring hospital treatment. Two men sustained less serious injuries, while a fourth person initially thought to have been shot was actually injured when she fell during the disturbance, West Midlands Police confirmed.
The woman who fell has since received treatment and been discharged from hospital. The nightclub remains closed as authorities review their licensing powers.
Arrests and investigation
A 32-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder at around 9.30am Saturday was bailed on Sunday pending further investigation. Three women in their twenties and thirties were also arrested on suspicion of violent disorder after their car was stopped on the M6 in Warwickshire shortly after the incident.
All three women have now been bailed as the investigation continues. Police said they are working to ensure the safety of everyone visiting the city for nightlife.
Nightclub response
Mango nightclub posted a statement on Instagram expressing concern for those affected. The venue said: "We are aware of a serious incident that took place at Mango nightclub last night. Our immediate thoughts are with those affected, and we are deeply concerned for their wellbeing."
The nightclub confirmed full cooperation with police and announced a comprehensive review of security procedures. Management requested understanding while the investigation continues and asked people to avoid speculation.
Detective Inspector Rachael Allen from West Midlands Police's major crime unit said: "We are building a clearer picture of what happened in the nightclub, and are working flat out to ensure we identify everyone who was involved. It's still really important that we hear from anyone who was inside the venue, or who may have taken any pictures or video."
Police have appealed for anyone with information to call 101 quoting log 561 of 20 September, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
