Police have made arrests at a protest in Parliament Square supporting Palestine Action after the group was officially banned as a terrorist organisation on Saturday.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed officers were responding to the demonstration and making arrests, posting updates on X throughout Saturday afternoon.
Court challenge fails
Palestine Action lost a last-minute Court of Appeal challenge on Friday night which sought to prevent the protest group being proscribed, with the new legislation coming into force at midnight.
The designation as a terror group means that membership of, or support for, Palestine Action is now a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
Criminal offence warning
The Metropolitan Police posted on X: "Officers are responding to a protest in support of Palestine Action in Parliament Square. The group is now proscribed and expressing support for them is a criminal offence."
Police added that arrests were being made and promised further updates would be shared on their social media channels.
