Two British mothers are fighting for their lives in Ibiza hospitals after being struck by a car during what should have been a "happy holiday" on the Spanish island. Ebony Cordingley (26) and Lauren Holmes (27), both from Bradford, West Yorkshire, were hit by a Toyota Corolla at 1:50am on Tuesday while crossing the El-600 road between Ibiza and San Antonio.

Ebony is in critical condition at the private Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic, while Lauren remains in intensive care at Ibiza's main Can Misses state hospital. Both women are mothers - Ebony has three young sons named Jamie, Jacob and Reggie, while Lauren has a young girl and boy.

Family devastation

The accident has devastated both families, with Ebony's sister Shannon saying their "world has been turned upside down". A GoFundMe appeal has been launched to help cover medical expenses and support for Ebony's three young sons during this difficult time.

Shannon said: "On what should have been a happy holiday in Ibiza, our beloved sister Ebony was struck by a taxi in the early hours of Tuesday 26th August, and is now in a critical condition in an intensive care unit. This sudden and devastating accident has turned our world upside down and our family is facing the most frightening time of our lives."

Shannon confirmed Ebony has suffered a brain bleed, lung bleeding, broken leg, fractured leg, broken ribs and multiple contusions. The family hopes Ebony's condition will be reclassified from critical to serious but stable after 2pm today.

Investigation ongoing

The Civil Guard is investigating the incident involving the 24-year-old Spanish driver, who passed a drink-drive test. No arrests have been made and the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Shannon confirmed the women were returning to their hotel after a meal and were not drinking or leaving clubs. She said: "They played in a park on swings, went for a walk, went for food then walked back to their hotel not realising the dangers of the roads around there."

Their mother has flown to Ibiza and is meeting with the British embassy. The families are asking for community support through donations and prayers as they face an uncertain recovery period ahead.
