A multi-agency search is underway off Ireland's northwest coast for a missing UK navy crew member who was last seen late Friday night.

The Irish Coast Guard received a distress alert from a UK Naval support vessel just before 9am on Saturday. The crew member had last been seen at approximately 10:30pm on Friday when the vessel was north of Tory Island, County Donegal.

Search Operation

Search efforts are focused on the sea between Tory Island and Eagle Island, County Mayo. Three aircraft are involved: the Coast Guard's fixed-wing plane Rescue 120F from Shannon, helicopter Rescue 118 from Sligo, and an Irish Air Corps CASA 284 plane.

The UK Naval vessel is coordinating sea operations with three RNLI all-weather lifeboats from Ballyglass, Arranmore Island, and Lough Swilly. Ireland's Department of Transport said in a statement that «other vessels of opportunity are also involved in the search.»
