A 37-year-old man has been charged with murdering a woman who was found dead at a house in West Yorkshire. The discovery came after police responded to reports of an armed robbery at a nearby supermarket.

Courtney Angus, 21, was found dead at an address in Norfolk Street in Batley on Saturday. The grim discovery followed a dramatic sequence of events that began with reports of an armed robbery.

Police respond to robbery report

Officers were called to reports of an armed robbery at Asda in nearby Dewsbury at 9.20pm on Saturday. During their response, they arrested a man who then told officers about a woman he believed to be dead inside a house in Norfolk Street.

Police seized a knife at the scene before attending the address in Batley, where they discovered Ms Angus, who was from Dewsbury. The circumstances surrounding her death prompted a murder investigation.

Multiple charges brought forward

On Wednesday, West Yorkshire Police announced that Michael Moore, 37, of Norfolk Street, Batley, has been charged with Ms Angus's murder. He faces additional charges including possession of a bladed article, affray and two counts of threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place.

Police said these additional charges relate to incidents that occurred in Dewsbury on the same day as the discovery of Ms Angus's body. Moore has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Leeds magistrates on Wednesday.
