A 23-year-old woman from Glasgow appeared in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on terrorism charges for allegedly displaying a placard related to Palestine Action, a recently banned organisation. Catriona Roberts faces trial in April for the alleged offence at St Giles Cathedral on July 19, 2025.

The charge accuses Roberts of acting «in such a way or in such circumstances as to arouse reasonable suspicion that you were a member or a supporter of a proscribed organisation as defined by the aforementioned act namely, Palestine Action.» She is representing herself in the proceedings.

Sheriff Fergus Thomson set a trial date for April 23, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 1. Roberts appeared in court wearing a black jacket and a black-and-white keffiyeh scarf.

Ban on Palestine Action

Palestine Action was proscribed as a terror organisation in July under the Terrorism Act 2000. The ban followed an incident on June 20 when the group claimed responsibility for damaging two Voyager planes at RAF Brize Norton.

Membership or support of a banned organisation carries severe penalties. Under the Terrorism Act 2000, individuals convicted of such offences face up to 14 years in prison.
