A woman in her 30s is fighting for her life after being stabbed in the neck in Birmingham city centre on Thursday evening. West Midlands Police arrested a man in his 20s near the scene on Smallbrook Queensway, outside Boots in the Bullring shopping area. The attack happened shortly before 9pm.

Detective Inspector James Nix said: «We believe this was an unprovoked attack and are working to understand why it happened.» He confirmed police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Officers remain in the area to continue the investigation and provide reassurance to the public.

Witness Appeal

Police have launched a Major Incident Public Portal where the public can submit photos or videos relevant to the investigation. West Midlands Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the city centre before the incident or who might have seen someone acting suspiciously. Information can also be reported by calling 101 and quoting log number 5503 of November 7.

Third Stabbing in a Month

This is the third reported stabbing in Birmingham city centre in just over a month. Two 17-year-old boys were stabbed in separate incidents outside the city's Primark in early October, within a week of each other.

Shoppers expressed concern about safety in the area. Daniel Webb, 34, told Birminghammail: «It's really, really disturbing. Things like this should just never happen though.»
