Kyle Allen, aged 19, was arrested after a dramatic 90mph police chase that ended the manhunt for South Yorkshire's most wanted burglar. The high-speed pursuit through Penistone in the early hours of January 28 showcased the dangerous lengths criminals will go to evade justice.

Police spotted Allen driving a Suzuki Cross erratically at around 1:15am, with the vehicle believed to be on cloned plates. When officers requested him to stop, Allen refused and began a reckless chase that saw him reach speeds of 90mph and drive on the wrong side of the road, including on the motorway.

Dramatic police intervention

The South Yorkshire Police Roads Proactive Policing Team used tactical intervention to end the dangerous pursuit. Officers deployed a stinger device, but Allen continued taking risks to evade capture before police used their vehicle to push him off the road.

According to Yorkshire reports, the officer's first words upon arrest were memorable: "Hello Kyle, we've been looking for you pal." The chase had taken place through busy areas including Penistone and Huddersfield Road where pedestrians were present.

Serious criminal charges

Allen was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court to three years and eight months in prison and disqualified from driving for three years and 10 months. He faced multiple charges including two counts of burglary, six counts of handling stolen goods, attempted burglary, attempted theft from a shop, threats to damage, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without insurance or a licence.

Detective Sergeant Dave Baker said: "Burglary is an horrendous crime, the thieves not only steal people's belongings, but they leave an emotional and traumatic impact on them for years, knowing someone has been able to enter their home, an invasion of someone's safe space. Allen had no regard for the law or for people across South Yorkshire, his actions were selfish, and when it came to evading police contact, they were dangerous, risking innocent people's lives on the roads in a pursuit."

The detective emphasised that criminals are more likely to take further risks on the roads, making the skilled intervention by roads policing officers crucial for public safety. The successful arrest and meticulous investigation led to securing a lengthy prison sentence that will benefit communities across South Yorkshire.
