Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has launched a new political party, declaring that the "system is rigged" and calling for "mass redistribution of wealth and power". The Independent MP for Islington North announced the formation of Your Party in a statement released today.
The new political venture is a joint initiative with Coventry MP Zarah Sultana, who also sits as an Independent. They said: "It's time for a new kind of political party. One that belongs to you."
Inaugural conference planned
An inaugural conference will take place for members to "decide the party's direction, the model of leadership and the policies that are needed to transform society". The party aims to give members direct control over its future direction and policy platform.
Corbyn led the Labour Party from 2015 to 2020 before being suspended following a row over a report into antisemitism in the party. He was expelled from Labour in 2024 and successfully contested the summer general election as an Independent candidate, retaining his Islington North seat.
Sultana's departure from Labour
Sultana had the Labour whip withdrawn after rebelling against the Government to vote to scrap the two-child benefit cap. She resigned her Labour membership in 2025, joining Corbyn as an Independent MP.
The formation of Your Party brings together two prominent figures who have broken away from the Labour Party under Sir Keir Starmer's leadership.
