A 30-year-old man has been rearrested at Manchester Airport on suspicion of failing to disclose information about terrorism. The man was previously arrested and released without charge following last week's synagogue attack in Manchester.

Counter Terrorism Policing North West confirmed the arrest occurred at 12:34pm on Thursday. The suspect was detained under Section 38B of the Terrorism Act 2000 but has since been released on bail.

Police emphasised there is no ongoing threat to the public following last week's incident. The force continues its investigation into the synagogue attack that shocked the Manchester community.

Legal requirements under terrorism laws

The Terrorism Act applies when someone possesses information they know or believe could help prevent terrorism. Under the legislation, such information must be disclosed "as soon as reasonably practicable" to authorities.

Background to the original attack

Last Thursday, Jihad Al-Shamie carried out a deadly rampage targeting Jews gathering for Yom Kippur. The 35-year-old called 999 during the attack, pledging allegiance to the Islamic State terror group.

Al-Shamie drove his car at people before attacking others with a knife and attempting to storm the synagogue. He wore a fake suicide belt during the assault and was shot dead by armed police officers who responded to the scene.
