UK domestic airline Eastern Airways has suspended all operations with immediate effect, leaving passengers stranded across the country. The carrier cancelled every scheduled flight, prompting urgent warnings from aviation authorities for customers to avoid travelling to airports.

The airline operated regional services connecting destinations including Aberdeen, Humberside, London Gatwick, Newquay, Teesside International and Wick. Eastern Airways customers must now arrange alternative travel through other airlines, rail operators or coach services at their own expense.

Company enters administration process

Eastern Airways (UK) Ltd filed a notice of intention to appoint an administrator at the Insolvency and Companies Court on Monday morning. The legal filing signals the beginning of formal insolvency proceedings for the regional carrier.

Selina Chadha, consumer and markets director at the UK Civil Aviation Authority, said: "We urge passengers planning to fly with this airline not to go to the airport as all Eastern Airways flights are cancelled. Eastern Airways customers should visit the Civil Aviation Authority's website for the latest information."

Emergency rail support offered

Major rail operators have stepped in to provide emergency assistance to affected passengers and staff. London and North Eastern Railway, ScotRail, TransPennine Express, and Northern will offer free standard class travel on October 28 and 29.

The emergency rail support covers suitable routes operated by each train company, according to the UK Civil Aviation Authority. Passengers and Eastern Airways staff can access this assistance by presenting employee ID, boarding passes, or flight confirmations to station staff.
