Donald Trump landed in the UK on Tuesday evening for his second state visit, with Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper among those greeting the US President as he disembarked Air Force One at London Stansted airport. RAF personnel from The King's Colour Squadron formed a guard of honour as he stepped off the plane.
Trump and his wife Melania are expected to travel onwards to stay overnight at Winfield House, the official residence of the US ambassador in Regent's Park. The couple will then visit Windsor Castle on Wednesday for the main ceremonial events.
Windsor Castle ceremonies planned
The President will receive a ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, followed by a lavish state banquet. Trump has described the visit as a "great honour" and called King Charles his "friend".
No public-facing engagements are scheduled for the President during his two-day stay. Thousands of people are expected to take part in major protests against his visit.
Trade discussions with Prime Minister
Trump will hold talks with Sir Keir Starmer (Labour) at the Prime Minister's country residence Chequers on Thursday. The President has hinted at possible tariff relief for UK steel ahead of these discussions.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday before landing, Trump said: "My relationship is very good with the UK, and Charles, as you know, who's now King, is my friend. It's the first time this has ever happened where somebody was honoured twice. So, it's a great honour."
He added: "I'm there also on trade. They want to see if they can refine the trade deal a little bit. We've made a deal, and it's a great deal, and I'm into helping them."
