Google has slashed £350 off its Pixel 9 Pro smartphone, bringing the price down to £649 from £999. The massive discount arrives on the same day the tech giant prepares to unveil its newest Pixel 10 range at the Made By Google event.

The Pixel 10 launch takes place at 6pm UK time, with the new devices expected to feature enhanced AI functions and improved cameras. However, shoppers can now secure significant savings on last year's flagship model instead of waiting for the premium-priced latest release.

Major retailer discounts

Amazon leads the discount offerings with the £350 reduction on the Pixel 9 Pro. Sky offers pay-as-you-go options at £23 monthly with a £12 upfront fee, while Argos matches Amazon's £649 price point.

The Pixel 9 Pro remains fully supported by Google until 2031, ensuring users receive the latest software updates. This makes it an attractive option for consumers who prioritise value over having the newest device.

Camera quality assessment

The device's standout feature is its triple rear camera system, delivering focused close-ups, sharp selfies, and rich colours. Staff reviewer Tom Capon, who purchased the device personally after being an avid iPhone user before switching to Android six years ago, gave a glowing assessment of its photographic capabilities.

"The camera is all you need to worry about here. The camera is, in fact, insane - so much so that I need to reconsider my own skincare routine," Capon said. "Everything from filming my gym routine to taking a photo of my cat is enhanced to such a degree that it's now my favourite function on the phone."

Superior camera performance

Capon highlighted the superior camera performance compared to alternatives, particularly praising the front-facing camera. "What's more, the self-facing camera is still leagues ahead of the 7 or any other phone I've used," he explained.

"It's really night and day - if you take photos on your phone, for me, the Pixel 9 Pro is the absolute top of its game." Tom swapped to the Pixel when he heard good things about the durability after years of Android use.

Feature-rich experience

He opted for the Pixel 9 Pro specifically for its sharp camera and software update capabilities. "I opted for the Pixel 9 Pro as I needed a sharper camera and something to keep up with the most recent software updates. However, I ended up staying for all the bells and whistles," he said.

"Smartphones are hard to upgrade as there's only so much convenience you can get in one machine. But this bad boy came packed with adaptive battery (which switches over to power saving mode when I stream YouTube videos for hours at a time) and adjustable bedtime settings to make sure I'm not exploding blue light into my retinas just before bedtime."

Battery life considerations

However, Capon provided a balanced view of the device's battery performance, noting it hasn't been revolutionary compared to other models. He streams audiobooks and podcasts extensively, which impacts battery duration throughout the day.

"If these are ditched, the phone does easily last all day and night without a charge," he said. The adaptive battery feature helps manage power consumption during heavy usage periods like YouTube streaming.

Alternative options available

For budget-conscious shoppers, the Pixel 9a offers a more affordable entry point at £399, though it lacks some premium features of the standard range. According to Daily Record, Amazon customers rate the Pixel 9 series 4.4 out of 5 stars from 590 reviews, with mixed feedback on fingerprint sensor performance.

Contract deals are available through multiple carriers, with Three offering packages from £529 and iD Mobile providing monthly plans from £19.99. Some bundles include additional accessories like Pixel Buds and smartwatches.
