Josie Gibson had her breast implants removed in 2023 after discovering a frightening lump that visibly changed the shape of her breast. The This Morning presenter became "really worried" when she noticed the protrusion and could see her breast had changed shape.
Gibson had originally undergone breast enhancement surgery in 2013, increasing from a B cup to a DD. A decade later, a GP examination revealed the concerning lump was actually related to her breast implant, prompting her decision to have them removed.
"You could actually see it protruding - you could see the breast had changed shape, so I was getting a little bit frightened," Gibson told The Sun. "So I went to my GP and he had a feel around - it was my breast implant. I went and I had them out and, for me, it was one of the best things I've done."
Health transformation brings peace of mind
Gibson now describes the removal as one of the best decisions she has made and says she enjoys complete "peace of mind" following the procedure. She harbours no regrets about the choice to have the implants removed after the health scare.
The Big Brother personality has since partnered with tombola and Breast Cancer Now to raise awareness about breast health. She has been open about balancing her high activity levels with her weight challenges.
Gout diagnosis reveals lifestyle impact
Gibson also discovered she was battling gout, an arthritic condition where uric acid accumulates in the joints. The diagnosis came as a surprise, as she initially believed gout only affected "old men".
"I kept saying to the nurse: 'My toes keep hurting'," Gibson explained. "I thought gout was only for old men, but I have been living quite a lavish life. Before I filmed this show, I caught a lot of flights, I drank a lot of champagne, I ate a lot of rich food and I had little sleep. That's how I ended up getting gout."
Despite maintaining superior fitness levels, Gibson acknowledges she remains overweight. She has been candid about the challenges, often saying she "runs rings around" her slimmer friends while questioning the fairness of her situation.
The NHS states that individuals face increased gout risk if they carry excess weight, consume alcohol, or have elevated cholesterol levels. Gibson's lifestyle changes following her health MOT for Channel 5's The 1970s Diet have helped address these risk factors.
