A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after two men were fatally stabbed at a business premises in central London. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest following a deadly attack that left four people with stab wounds.
Emergency services rushed to Long Lane in Southwark at about 1pm on Monday after reports of multiple stabbings inside a commercial property. Paramedics found and treated four people for stab wounds at the scene.
Two men die from injuries
A 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene whilst three other men were taken to hospital. A 27-year-old man later died in hospital from his injuries, police confirmed.
On Tuesday, police said a 31-year-old British citizen had been arrested on Monday in connection with the incident. He remains in hospital where his condition is not life-threatening.
Investigation continues at pace
Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing for the area, said: "Our thoughts are first and foremost with the family and friends of the victims of this tragic incident. Our investigation continues at pace and we are working hard to understand the full circumstances."
Bond added: "I understand there may be concern in the local community and there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days. I would also encourage anyone who may be worried to speak to an officer."
Crime scene remains active
A crime scene remains in place at the business premises where the attack occurred. Police have also established a crime scene at a nearby hotel where the arrested man entered, though they clarified that speculation about him staying at the hotel is not accurate.
The force continues its investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbings. Anyone with information has been asked to call 101 or report it online.
