Paul Mosley, who was convicted of killing six children in a house fire, has died aged 58. The man was serving a 17-year sentence for manslaughter before his release on licence in January 2024.

Mosley was jailed in 2013 alongside Mick and Mairead Philpott after helping to start the devastating blaze in Derby. The fire killed six of the Philpotts' children in May 2012, shocking the nation.

The deliberate fire claimed the lives of Jade Philpott, aged 10, and her brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six, and Jayden, five. Duwayne, the eldest at 13, died later in hospital from his injuries.

All three defendants were convicted of six counts of manslaughter following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court. The case highlighted the tragic consequences of a domestic dispute that spiralled into deadly violence.

Sentences and aftermath

Mick Philpott received a life sentence with a minimum term of 15 years after being identified as the instigator of the fire at the family home. His wife Mairead Philpott was sentenced to 17 years in prison but was released in 2020 after serving half her sentence.
