Suffolk powerboat driver dies in crash at racing event

A competitor in a powerboat race has died after crashing into a houseboat during a racing event in Suffolk. The driver, a man in his 50s, died at the scene at Oulton Broad on Thursday evening.

Suffolk Police confirmed no other injuries occurred in the tragic collision. The incident happened during a local racing event organised by the Circuit Powerboat Association (CPA).

Emergency services respond

The crash occurred at approximately 6.50pm on Thursday during the powerboat racing competition. Suffolk Police received reports of the collision just after 7.10pm near Oulton Broad Water Sports Centre.

Emergency services including the East of England Ambulance Service, Coastguard and a volunteer paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) attended the scene. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the powerboat driver sadly died at the scene.

Investigation launched

Police confirmed they are working closely with partners and other agencies following the fatal incident. The force said the collision involved the powerboat striking a stationary houseboat on the water during the racing event.

The racing competition was taking place at the popular water sports venue when the accident occurred. Suffolk Police emphasised that no other injuries resulted from the collision.
