Triplets honour grandfather at Cardiff University graduation

Three sisters have paid a touching tribute to their late grandfather as they all graduated from Cardiff University. Rose, Maudie and Grace Orgill, 21, from Gloucestershire, each received honours from the university's class of 2025, marking a remarkable family achievement.

The triplets studied completely different subjects during their time at university. Rose earned a BSc in chemistry, Maudie completed a BA in history, and Grace graduated with a BSc in biomedical sciences.

Emotional tribute to grandfather

Their graduation ceremony became deeply emotional as each sister carried a special tribute to their grandfather, who had passed away suddenly. The timing was particularly poignant, as he died on the day of Rose's final chemistry exam.

"The girls each wore a ribbon and forget-me-not flower on their gowns in memory of him, a beautiful reminder that he's still with them, cheering them on," said their mother, Clare Orgill. "Just like us, he was so incredibly proud of our girls."

University choice happened by chance

The sisters had not originally planned to attend the same university together. "It happened by chance," said Rose, the eldest of the triplets. "Ideally, we wanted to split up, but we all fell in love with Cardiff on the offer holder day, when the sun was out, something we later realised is pretty rare."

They believed Cardiff was large enough that they wouldn't constantly bump into each other whilst studying different subjects. However, fate had other plans when they were assigned to the same six-person flat.

Living together throughout studies

"It was like moving home from home with them to be honest," Grace said. "Our rooms are actually closer at uni than at home. But it's allowed us to make triple the friends, which is never a bad thing."

The sisters continued living together throughout their studies and all represented Cardiff University Netball Club. Rose competed for the first team in Varsity, whilst Maudie, the youngest of the group, captained the team in her final year.

Different paths ahead

The triplets plan to travel together over the coming months, starting their trip in south-east Asia before deciding their next steps. Their future paths may finally see them going in separate directions after years of shared experiences.

Grace is considering joining the RAF, while Rose may move abroad for work. For Maudie, a return to Cardiff could be on the cards as she hopes to go into law and potentially do a conversion course at the university.

Their father, Phil Orgill, said: "We're excited to see what the future has in store for them and if they'll all end up working in the same city too. But first we're looking forward to hearing all about their adventures when they head off travelling at the end of the year."
