Farmfoods has urgently recalled its Ultimate Keralan Chicken Curry ready meal due to undeclared prawns that pose serious health risks to customers with allergies. The supermarket chain with 300 stores across the UK issued the warning after discovering the 400g meals contain crustaceans not mentioned on the packaging.
The affected product carries batch code L550 and has a best before date of February 13, 2026. Customers who purchased this item should not consume it and must return it immediately to any Farmfoods store for a full refund.
Serious health threat
The undeclared prawns create a potentially life-threatening situation for individuals with seafood allergies or intolerances. Daily Mail reports that crustacean allergies affect up to three per cent of UK adults, meaning approximately 1.5 million people could be at risk.
Anaphylaxis from undeclared allergens can be fatal and requires immediate medical intervention including EpiPen use and emergency services. The recall follows ongoing regulatory improvements since Natasha's Law was introduced in 2021 following the 2016 death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse from undeclared allergens.
Return process simplified
Farmfoods confirmed customers do not need a receipt to return the product. The company said: "We take consumer safety very seriously and sincerely apologise to our loyal customers for this situation and any inconvenience it may have caused."
Product identification
The best before date appears on the bottom right corner of the front packaging. Farmfoods explained: "It has come to our attention that a limited quantity of our 400g Farmfoods Keralan Chicken Curry were mistakenly produced with prawns."
Customers requiring further information can contact Farmfoods customer services on 0121 700 7160. The Food Standards Agency has been notified of the recall and is monitoring the situation.
