A 26-year-old British man has died after being pulled unconscious from the sea off Lindos, the historic tourist capital of Rhodes.

The incident occurred on August 16 while the man was swimming in the popular Greek resort area.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at the nearby Archangelos Health Centre.

Greek police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The island's port authority confirmed an incident involving a young foreigner being pulled from the sea, with an autopsy ordered by the Forensic Medical Service.

The UK Foreign Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities."
